Next Stop: Spain

On Monday I step into digital nomad mode again and fly to Barcelona for a 4 week stay in Spain plus some travel time in Morocco. No set plans yet. Will work that out once I get there. For now, I will stay in Barcelona for about 5 days then work my way via train to the southwest coast of Spain. I decided to head that way because I want to go to the Canary Islands. When I was in the Peace Corps in Africa, I would see these really tiny islands (the Canary Islands) on the map in our old beat up copies of the Lonely Planet “Africa on a Shoestring” travel guides. Old school stuff. Way before smartphones, mainstream GPS and internet.

I’m still figuring out how to get there, but best I can tell, it looks like you can only get to the Canary Islands from Spain via a 36 hour ferry. Even though land-wise Morocco is closer, you can’t go that way I guess because it’s a different country, and well, a different continent too. 😏

Once I make this trek, I will know for certain.

I’m excited about this trip. I’ve been wanting to go to these countries for many years. I had opportunities before, but didn’t have much time then, so I opted not to go at all. This time is different.

People ask what is on my bucket list. Well, everywhere is on my bucket list. At anytime there are at least five places I’m ready to go to now, but in general, I still want to go everywhere. I have since my first overseas trip in 1995 to Lesotho, Southern Africa for the Peace Corps. And after nearly 30 years of world travel, I still love the excitement of seeing someplace new.

Spain bound for now. Four days until I go.
